some people from southeastern PA call "the beach," "the shore." It is one of the fun aspects of language, like saying "yinz" as the plural for "you" if you grow up in certain neighborhoods of Pittsburgh, or saying "pop" for "soda."

Got it! OK, that is pretty cool. I've moved around most of my life, so I have rather mixed memories of such things. I do remember hearing "pop" for "soda"!
