for slight offences, of course, punishment with a hairbrush or a wooden spoon is enough, laziness at school, disrespect and lying should be punished with a cane at this age.

I agree lying deserves the cane. But I still think the cane is very severe punishment. Would you really use it for "disrespect" if you are just in a bad mood? Of course not, she would have to really have insulted you. And if a girl is getting poor grades in school you should just spank her bare with the hand everyday until her grades improve. Just my opinion.
